Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how Cut Optimizer (“the App,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use our iOS application. Cut Optimizer is a cut-list and layout optimization tool for sheet goods and linear stock.
We designed the App to work primarily offline. Your cutting projects, measurements, and material lists stay on your device. We do not require an account, and we do not operate a cloud service that stores your project data.
1. Summary
- Your project data stays on your device. We do not collect, upload, or store your cut lists, stock sizes, part dimensions, optimization results, or PDF exports on our servers.
- Optional diagnostics. If enabled, the App may send anonymous usage and crash diagnostics to Google Firebase. You can turn this off at any time in Settings.
- No advertising or cross-app tracking. The App does not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell your personal information.
2. Information Stored on Your Device
The App stores the following information locally on your iPhone or iPad using on-device storage (SwiftData). This data is not transmitted to us:
- Project names and settings (for example, kerf, trim, rotation, and unit preferences)
- Stock panels and linear stock definitions
- Part labels, dimensions, quantities, and grain settings
- Optimization results and layout data
- Saved stock library entries
- App preferences, including your diagnostics on/off choice
If you export or share a PDF, that file is created on your device and shared only through the sharing options you choose (for example, AirDrop, email, or Files). We do not receive copies of exported PDFs.
3. Optional Diagnostics We May Collect
When diagnostics collection is enabled, the App uses Google Firebase services to help us understand how the App is used and to improve stability:
- Firebase Analytics — anonymous product interaction data, such as which screens are viewed and high-level feature usage (for example, that a project was created, an optimization was completed, or a PDF was exported). Analytics events may include non-identifying counts (such as number of parts or pages) but not the actual measurements or labels from your projects.
- Firebase Crashlytics — crash reports and non-fatal error reports to help us fix bugs. These reports may include technical details such as device model, operating system version, app version, and a context label describing where an error occurred. They do not include your project content.
- Device identifiers — Firebase may use an app-instance or device identifier to distinguish installations for analytics and crash reporting. This identifier is not linked to your identity by us.
Diagnostics are enabled by default in release builds, but you can disable them at any time:
Settings → Privacy → Send anonymous diagnostics (toggle off)
When diagnostics are disabled, new analytics events and crash reports are not sent. Disabling diagnostics does not delete data that was already transmitted before you turned the setting off.
4. What We Do Not Collect
We do not collect, and the App does not transmit to us:
- Your name, email address, phone number, or other contact details (no account is required)
- Precise location data
- Photos, camera, microphone, or contacts
- The contents of your cutting projects, including part names, dimensions, or material lists
- Payment or purchase information (the App does not include in-app purchases at this time)
5. How We Use Information
We use optional diagnostics data only to:
- Understand which features are used and improve the App
- Monitor stability and diagnose crashes or errors
- Plan fixes and product improvements
We do not use diagnostics data for advertising or to build advertising profiles.
6. Third-Party Services
Firebase is operated by Google LLC. When diagnostics are enabled, data is processed by Google in accordance with Google’s privacy practices. For more information, see:
We do not control Google’s processing of data sent to Firebase. We choose Firebase because it allows us to collect only the limited, anonymous diagnostics described in this policy.
7. Data Retention
Project data remains on your device until you delete it within the App or uninstall the App. Diagnostics data retained by Google/Firebase is subject to Google’s retention policies.
8. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding personal information, such as the right to access, correct, or delete data. Because we do not operate user accounts and do not receive your project data, most requests relating to project content can be fulfilled by you directly on your device (by deleting projects or uninstalling the App).
For diagnostics data processed by Google, you may also review Google’s tools and policies linked in Section 6.
To opt out of diagnostics collection in the App, use the toggle in Settings as described in Section 3.
9. Children’s Privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
10. Security
Project data is stored locally on your device and protected by your device’s operating system security features (such as device passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we limit remote data collection to optional, anonymous diagnostics as described above.
11. International Users
If you enable diagnostics, information may be processed in countries where Google operates, including the United States. By using diagnostics features, you acknowledge that this information may be transferred to and processed in those locations.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes may also be communicated through the App or App Store listing where appropriate.
